Sanju Pradhan is a product of the Sikkim government’s ‘Search for more Baichung Bhutias’ scheme and schooled at the Namchi Sports Hostel and Sports Academy of Sikkim. After a good outing in the Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup, the youngster was spirited away by Bimal Ghosh to Air-India, where the attacking midfielder-cum-right winger made his mark thanks to his dribbling skills, scoring ability and high work rate. The big clubs soon came calling but it was East Bengal which secured his signature in 2008. Pradhan established himself as a pivotal figure in the Red & Gold camp and also broke through to the senior national team, making his debut against Syria in the Nehru Cup 2012.
He also won two Federation Cups, an IFA Shield and Indian Super Cup. After five years at East Bengal, he moved to Dempo and subsequently Salgaocar. The midfield dynamo was a part of Atlético de Kolkata’s Hero ISL 2014 winning squad and played for NorthEast United FC last year. The upcoming season will see him don the orange and purple stripes of FC Pune City.
