One of India’s No 1 shot stopper, Subrata Paul has been one of India’s outstanding players of the new millennium and is rated among the best goalkeepers in Asia. He is also the first Indian goalkeeper to get a contract from a foreign club, FC Vestsjaelland aka FCV Vikings, who operate in the Danish Superliga. A product of the Tata Football Academy, his agility and reflexes have helped him pull off incredible saves in match after match. He has stints with the leading clubs of India and helped them to several trophies, East Bengal’s triumph in Federation Cup 2007 being a notable example. He has been an integral part of the national squad and has been entrusted with the captain’s armband on occasions.
In Hero ISL 2014, Paul kept six clean sheets (2nd highest) and made 49 saves (2nd highest) in 14 matches for Mumbai City FC. He made another 40 saves in 12 appearances for Mumbai in Hero ISL 2015 and received the Arjuna Award in 2016. The upcoming season with the Highlanders will be a new challenge for the keeper known as the ‘The Indian Spiderman’.
